Question 1 : Why won't you disclose your sources?


The several years taken to develop a reliable set of primary information sources for intelligence and Information Security threat discovery has resulted in a tightly held set of sources that, although they are public, are not widely known, and require significant effort to extract relevant information from.

Non-disclosure of sources does not imply that the information being reported is being made up, particularly when it comes to disclosure of upcoming threats that are still emerging. Some information will never have a clearly defined source, as it is based on skilled inference from a range of sources and variations in the general 'background noise' of a wider range of sources. This is most obvious with security threats that have might still be under development or initial research by attackers and security researchers.

Question 2 : Are your collection methods illegal?


S?nnet Beskerming's methods and sources used for Information Security Intelligence gathering are in no way illegal or unethical.

S?nnet Beskerming has spent several years developing and refining our collection methods to ensure the maximum level of intelligence gathering possible, without engaging in illegal or unethical behaviour.

Question 3 : On date X, on site Y, you claimed that Security incident Z had taken place. Why won't you release specific evidence?


S?nnet Beskerming provides detailed technical reports to the administrators or relevant personnel directly involved with the incident. Once this data exchange has taken place, S?nnet Beskerming will disclose no further technical details unless permission is granted by the personnel involved. If a data exchange can not be effected, S?nnet Beskerming will not disclose technical details publicly, and will only privately disclose the details to personnel who can be verified as an appropriate disclosure point for the affected site.

In certain instances, when no public notice has been made of a serious incident that affects a wider population, S?nnet Beskerming will release a generalised alert which identifies the incident in general terms, and provide a recommended course of action to those affected by the incident. It is not appropriate or ethical to release detailed technical information when an incident may not have been fully resolved.

If a company or site that has been supplied with detailed information about an incident that affects them, and is non-communicative or refuses to resolve the issue, S?nnet Beskerming reserves the right to provide a controlled release of technical details to enable others who have been affected by the incident to take steps to mitigate their exposure. This is a 'responsible disclosure' policy, which provides the fairest treatment for all involved parties.

In order to remain a privately held company, investor positions are limited. Investors that can bring added capabilities and means to improve S?nnet Beskerming's position in the marketplace will be considered to have a distinct advantage.

Question 2 : What does S?nnet Beskerming mean?


S?nnet Beskerming is an amalgamation of three Frisian words: S?n, Net, and Beskerming (Frisian is the language of the Friesland province of the Netherlands). A literal translation is "Healthy network protection", which is descriptive of what the company seeks to achieve through Information Security research, development, products and services. Although similar words exist in other languages, the definitions were originally taken from Frisian.
