Microsoft Security Patch Advance Notification January 2008
For the February 2008 monthly security patch release, Microsoft is planning to release twelve patches, seven Critical and five Important.
With the Critical patches, vulnerabilities with Windows, Office, Visual Basic, VBScript, JScript, and Internet Explorer (cumulative update) will be patched. The Important patches will patch vulnerabilities with Windows, IIS, Active Directory, and Office / Works.
Several of the Critical vulnerabilities affect all supported versions of Windows (Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista), and are assessed by Microsoft as being Critical for all of the platforms (given Vista's significant rewrite and Windows 2003's improved baseline security level, it would be expected that they would be less affected by a common vulnerability).
For those who are keen to have a more detailed look inside the vulnerabilities behind the patches, Microsoft will be updating their Security Vulnerability Research & Defense blog when the patches have been released.
