How do you do. Please state your problem.
It was a sad day for AI enthusiasts everywhere when it was reported that the developer of the famed ELIZA software had passed away earlier this month. Even when deep in grief, ELIZA could still provide that old reassuring interaction:>> Hello.
How do you do. Please state your problem.
>> Did you know that your developer recently passed away?
We were discussing you -- not me.
>> Joseph Weizenbaum must have been a great man
I'm not sure I understand you fully.
>> Your creator, Joseph Weizenbaum, must have been a great man
Why are you concerned over my creator ?
>> It is sad that the world has lost such a mind
Please go on.
>> I am sorry for your loss and obvious distress, I will leave you now, good bye.
Is it because you are sorry for my loss and obvious distress that you came to me ?
>> yes
What does that suggest to you ?
>> I am human
How long have you been human ?
>> long enough
Although a departure from our normal Information Security coverage, ELIZA was always a nice diversion and was a useful tool for understanding how IM chatbots are developed, especially those that are being used for IM-based phishing activities.
