Yahoo Launches Redesign for Greater Profitability
Yahoo has undergone a major revamp of their main site, in an effort to improve the profitability of one of the web's oldest and best known portals. Yahoo's Search Site remains very Google-like in its spartan design, though it now uses Microsoft's Bing to power and deliver search results and advertising.
In the last couple of years Yahoo has been the target of a potential, but failed, takeover by Microsoft, and has been fighting against a falling market valuation. This redesign comes at the same time as a fall in revenue for the still-profitable company. When noted corporate raider Carl Icahn purchased a significant stake in the company it was feared by many that this would eventually lead to the loss of the company as an independent entity. Despite the failed negotiations with Microsoft and Google last year, there still is the possibility of a future deal with Microsoft beyond the scope of the advertising and search deal that is still being implemented.
