Microsoft Security Patch Release October 2009 Advance Notification
Microsoft have released their Advance Notification for the patches that are expected to be released this coming week with the October Security Bulletin Release.
It's not going to be Friday the thirteenth (that's next month), instead it will be Tuesday the thirteenth that will see thirteen bulletins scheduled for release. Eight of the bulletins are rated as Critical, and the remainder as Important. A broad range of software and system components are affected by this set of updates, including core Windows components, an Internet Explorer cumulative update, SQL Server, Silverlight, and other elements.
As part of the updates released this month, there will be fixes for the previously disclosed SMB vulnerability and IIS FTP vulnerability.
Though only eight of the bulletins are rated Critical, ten relate to code execution of some form, and despite not being officially released until October 22, there will be one critical and four Important bulletins for Windows 7 (the cumulative Internet Explorer update [IE 8], and Windows and Silverlight updates).
