Microsoft Security Patch Release June 2010 Advance Notification

Microsoft's advance notification for June has been released, and it's a significant month of Security Bulletins coming up, with ten bulletins scheduled for release next week.

Of the ten, three are rated as Critical, for remote code execution vulnerabilities, all related to core Windows components. One of the Critical patches is expected to be a cumulative Internet Explorer update.

The remaining seven patches are rated Important, for vulnerabilities covering Remote Code Execution, Elevation of Privilege, and Tampering. These bulletins target Windows, Office, and Microsoft Server Software components (SharePoint Server).

The Office bulletins are also targeted at the OS X versions of Office, so Mac users will also need to be aware that patches will be released next week for their platform.

As Microsoft continues to end-of-life software, this month marks the second last time that patches will be issued for two of the most stable Windows versions ever created by Microsoft, Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP2. Support for both versions will be ceased as of July 13th.
